In Paulette's by Design Studio

This is one of my favorite places to be in all the world...like being a kid again:  "What would happen if I did this?"..."How would this look if it was turned this way and paired with that, but upside down and turned slightly to the left?"  Ahhhh, FREEDOM.

I found a beautiful rough cut Australian Boulder Opal while in Tucson this last winter - what a score!  (The lady from whom I purchased it was such a delight!)  I wire-wrapped the stone in sterling silver and gold-filled wire, and used Australian Boulder Opal chips, sterling silver rounds, and earth-tone and silver seed beads to compliment it.  The set was completed with a matching pair of earrings (not pictured), and sold during the 2013 Sequim Arts Tour.

10,000 Hours

The 10,000 Hour Rule

It is said that creative ability has to involve hard work and commitment.

According to Malcolm Gladwell's  "Outliers",  the mastery of any chosen field requires, at least, 10,000 hours of practice.

He quotes Thomas Edison. "None of my inventions came by accident.  What it boils down to is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."

The point being: the more work you do, the more you know about your practice.

And the more you engage with the work of others, the more likely you are to produce creative ideas.

So, as a group, THE FUSIONEERS  (pictured above) have, in reality, dedicated the minimum of 50,000 hours to their practices.  Any wagers on what the total real numbers might be?  Wow.

As my Dad used to say, "I used to be a Pert.  Now I am an Ex-Pert."

And as a group, we appreciate each others' work, absolutely, but most important is the 'feed' of creative ideas we share.

That is the reward for the long hours of hard work and commitment.
